An environmental study for a certain community indicates that there will be:

Q(p) = p[sup]2[/sup] + 4p + 900

units of a harmful pollutant in the air when the population is p thousand people. If the population is currently 50,000 and is increasing at the rate of 1,500 per year, at what rate is the level of pollution increasing?

Mitt forsøk:

dp/dt = 1500
dQ(p)/dt = ?

Deriverer Q(p) med hensyn på tid (t = year) på begge sider og får:

dQ(p)/dt = 2p * dp/dt + 4 * dp/dt
= 2 * 50 * 1500 + 4 * 1500
= 156000

Q(t) = 2,25t[sup]2[/sup] + 156t + 3600
Q'(t) = 4,5t + 156

Ved tiden t=0 har økningen en fart på 156 enheter per år.
Du får 156000 fordi dp/dt=1500 ikke er i antall tusen. Ellers ser det riktig ut.
