josi

x = antall individer som tar tog

1.8x = 9

Oppgaven er nå å løse denne likningen.

Suppose the percentage of people who took the train is x, equal to 100%. According to the question, 80% more people took the bus from the station than the train. That would, in turn, make 180% of people who took the bus since 100 and 80 more is equal to 180 (100+80). Let y be equal to the percentage of people who took the bus, which is 180%. Since we already know the actual number of people who took the bus, we can easily compute the number of people who took the train by the ratio and cross multiplication method. For that, we would need to convert our percentages first by dividing x and y with 100. After dividing by 100, x will be 1 (100/100), and y will be 1.8 (180/100). Let “A” be the actual value of the number of people who took the train. Now we have:
number of people who took the train: number of people who took the bus
x : y
1 : 1.8
A : 9
After cross multiplying, A with 1.8 and 9 with and solving for A brings us to the equation A = 9/1.8, which gives us 5. This method of calculating the unknown values through ratio comes very handy in solving confusing problems very quickly.
